Artist Bio

Jana Moser (b. 1996, AU) is a transdisciplinary genderqueer artist based on the unceded lands of the Arakwal people of the Bundjalung nation. They work with oil, paper and clay in process-based methods that expand pictorial and textual possibilities of abstraction. Their practice explores themes of connectivity to nature that move through, in between and outside of anthropocentric and binary perceptions of the world. Moser has exhibited in Melbourne AU, Leipzig Germany and the Northern Rivers AU. Recent group and solo exhibitions include holding onto shape at Elevator ARI; moss moves at Lismore Regional Gallery, Re-Figuring Ground at Grafton Regional Gallery and SALON at Lundberg Gallery.

Reflection

My experience with little company was a timely reminder of care. Receiving care from sensitive professionals and from myself as I welcomed treatment invited practices of care back into my life. Following my ritual facial and receiving the facial kit, there was an ease in continuing some of these practices for myself. Putting clay on my face and covering my skin in Manuka honey are now reminders that I can access care in simple ways that actually work to slow me down and therefore sustain me as an artist with two day jobs. The residency opportunity came to me at a time when I was edging toward exhaustion and burnout. Thank you, Little Company, for the reminder of care and for valuing the work of artists in this exchange.
